The BEST Chinese food around - fresh and flavourful!!

The food tasted like it was microwave . It came to table to quickly . Wouldn't come here again . The food didn't have much taste to it .

Worst Chinese I have ever had! There was absolutely no flavor to anything, no seasonings or sauces on any of the food. Plus the beef and broccoli had an odd taste to it. Spent $52 only to throw the food in the garbage because not one person in my family could bring themselves to eat it.

Really good food

This was our second meal from the Modern Cafe; the first was a delivery order which was great. We decided to go in for lunch. Inside the decor is from another era, very traditional. The food was great. We had lunch specials so cannot really comment on the whole menu. The portions were large and arrived hot. Service was friendly and efficient. Price was what you would expect in a fast food place; nice surprise. I think we will be going again. Our tastes in Chinese food are not exotic but if you like what people think of as "Chinese food" you will like the Modern Cafe.

The takeout is awefull. Everything tastes pretty much the same, no distinction between dishes. I have never visited the restaurant and have only had there takeout twice and that was twice too many. My experience has not been satisfying as I had hoped.

Go there quite often, the food Is very good, but the décor needs updating.

Hardly worth it. Edible and that was about it. Service was pretty good.

Good family place

Fresh, plentiful portions, fast and friendly service. The decor is stuck in the 70s (which I find endearing but not everyone will) but the food quality, service and prices all make up for any issues you may have with older diner decor. A Belleville hidden gem.

Beware!Do not order from here if you value your health. We ordered from this , once decent local Chinese restaurant and we almost ended up in hospital - our whole group of six! The price was ridiculous, a cool 200 dollars. ABSOLUTE RIPOFF AND ALL OF US ENDED UP SICK WITH FOOD POISONING.!STAY AWAY!

Place a little rough looking but the food is good

Good food at a good price. Decor may be dated but I don't go to restaurants for their interior design.

This small asian canadian cafe has about 100 seats but unfortunately i dont thinknive ever seen more than a couple filled. The service was absolutely amazing my server was kind and polite there would be things i would change but honestly its a mom and pop place i had the two eggs and bacon with fries and was absolutely satisfied with what i had. Always remember to love your small business whomever owns it because they can be just as much hidden gems as the big ones.

Reminds me of my hometown 70s rural Chinese / Canadian food.

Exactly as expected. I've known this place for over 40 years and it's changed very little. The woman at the front still calls me boy when I come in. And the best wonton soup and hot hamburger anywhere.

Those that claim this is a good spot for Asian cuisine have never had authentic, well made Asian dishes. This place is absolutely gross in terms of food quality, avoid at all costs. The atmosphere is also very uninviting and stale. Please consider shutting down for good, you'd be doing the town a favour

Awesome food and very friendly service. Highly recommend this place for Chinese food or fish and chips! The last time I was there? I had the chicken noodle soup for the first time. 5 Stars baby! Visit and you will see.

Rice was dry and the pork was a little chewy. It was also empty during lunch.

It was our first time ordering from there but wd really enjyoed it and the portions were big. We didn't have to wait very long for our take-out. We will go thete again when we visit in Belleville.

Thanks for supporting downtown, a great place, great food, fair pricing. I love the decorations, you would not be able to buy it like that these days. Reminds me of a movie set!

A sham of a meal... Just dough & grease! Sadly the worst Chinese we have ever had. We will never order again from Modern Cafe. The chow mein was nothing but bean sprouts literally & the pork & shrimp we covered in so much greasy batter it was inedible. Just a heads up! Sorry to write this review, but don't waste your money!:

Chicken fried rice had no soya sauce...worst dish ever had! Chicken Balls were good!

My opinion you can't find better chinness food

Last time I had a dish here for a party, my mouth went a little numb. Didn't taste like much either.

Bought beef chowmein and got steamed unseasoned beansprouts and like 3 pieces of boiled beef. Literally, that is it. Worst food i ever had. By far. In my entire life. Sorry

I chose the Billy miner pie, which entailed coffee flavored ice cream with Oreo cookie crust that was big enough for two people. Brought some home for later. The Cherry Cheesecake was light and delicious. Waiters were very attentive. Food was brought out in a timely manner and not all at once.

Best Chinese in Belleville. Great local owners too. My favourites are the chicken balls and the egg foo young.

My favorite Take out place

Garbage. Food is poor quality. My parents have always ordered delivery since years and years ago. Its always the same exact recipes and food. Very bland rice. Usualy overcooked. Noodles are nasty and flavorless. The food will taste good if you are very very hungry.

Despite the rumors the food here is delicious and they're really nice

I have not eaten here in years and now I wonder why. Possibly the best wonton soup and egg roll I've had in a long time. The main courses were large and extremely tasty.

Was by far the worst I have ever had. No flavour and restaurant is anything but it's name sake. Staff was fine but food was blah and tasteless.
